Time to add fibre to your digital diet!
Posted on Apr 29, 2025
Don’t say we didn’t warn you! With TalkTalk (as was, PXC as is) now giving formal notification of their intention to start the rollout of their withdrawal from traditional copper-based fibre to the cabinet exchanges, leading up to their complete UK switch off in January ’27 our future-gazing blogs of September ’23 and then January and June ’24 are now becoming reality. If you haven’t already either switched to fibre-based broadband, or made plans to do so, now would be a very good time to take action, if only to avoid what will almost certainly be a rush as the time draws near and those not as well informed as you are pushed into action.
There’s a point to making the change as soon as you can that goes beyond the grumble of having to. The simple fact is that fibre based broadband and the use of Voice over Internet Protocol, VoIP, is a more efficient system, better for your business and, unless you do it wrong, better for your pocket. Whilst not being exhaustive, here are at least a few reasons to welcome the change.
Speed! Did you ever do the simple test on our website that showed how much time, and therefore money, a business can lose whilst their employees hang about waiting for documents or data to upload? It can unperceptively build up to a significant amount. Not with fibre-based broadband. Speeds are exponentially faster.
Connectivity is more secure too. Fibre optics are less susceptible to weather conditions, electrical fluctuations and other potential problems.
Something really important for those of us who use Zoom, Teams or any of the other video conferencing systems is that fibre gives less lag and buffer. And, of course, the less lag there is, the better the quality of both audio and video signals.
Most fibre broadband connections also offer symmetrical upload and download speeds, crucial for seamless video conferencing and file sharing.
And that’s not all! Fibre is inherently more secure than copper based, it allows you to connect any number of devices without any compromise in performance and, in choosing fibre, you’re future proofing your business…Don’t wait!
